David Gravel has plenty of both, following two nights of competition last weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio with the World of Outlaws, which saw the 20-year-old set fast time in both races. He was in the lead in the main event of the opener, before contact ended his night, and he wrapped the weekend up with a solid fourth-place performance. Gravel looks to carry the momentum from those races into this weekend, as he returns to action with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.

The native of Watertown, Conn., takes to the track on Saturday, May 12 at the semi-banked 3/8-mile Mercer Raceway Park, as the All Stars make their first of two visits to the track in Western Pennsylvania, which is one of three separate trips to the west side of the Keystone State in 2012.

“The last two times we raced at Mercer, we had a good showing,” said Gravel. “I’ve raced there a couple of times and finished in the top-three in both. We are definitely excited to go back and keep the ball rolling. We were fast last weekend at Eldora and showed that we are contenders and look to carry that into this weekend.”

Gravel finished third at Mercer last season with the All Stars aboard his Kistler-powered J&J. The young driver opened the night as the eighth-fastest driver in time trials, with a very strong 46-car field in attendance. He finished third in the fourth eight-lap heat race, which earned him a spot in the dash. Gravel came home fourth in the dash, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 30-lap main event.

“At Mercer I have found a line that is unique and that has brought me some good finishes,” Gravel stated. “The track normally does not have much grip and it has a history of being dusty, especially near the end of the night. You have to stick to your guns and drive how you drive.”

Gravel is currently third in the All Star Circuit of Champions standings on the strength of six Top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish on the opening night of the season at Screven Speedway in Georgia, as well as a third-place showing at Port Royal Speedway in Pennsylvania last month. The East Coast racer has been quickest in time trials with the series twice this season and has earned one pole position in a main event.

In World of Outlaws action in 2012, Gravel has four Top-10 finishes, including a season-best third-place performance at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida during the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals. He has raced his way into the dash in six of his eight starts with the series to earn a Top-10 starting spot in the main event.

“The car has really been good and I have been learning a lot the last few times we have raced with the Outlaws, which has helped my driving,” he shared. “We are going to go out there, give it everything we have and try to keep the No. 89G up front.
