Watertown, Conn.—July 22, 2012 — It’s often said that Top-10 finishes lead to Top-Fives, which in turn lead to Top-Threes and then wins follow from there. If that holds true, David Gravel should be in Victory Lane pretty soon. The 20-year-old earned two more runner-up finishes this past week, in a stretch that saw him finish among the Top-Six in five feature events.

Gravel opened the week with the World of Outlaws in the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twins 30’s at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., on Tuesday, July 17. The native of Watertown, Conn., lined up 12th in the first 30-lap main event and worked his way into the Top-10 within the first couple laps of the race. He found himself in the Top-Five by the 12th circuit, enduring six cautions in the first 12 laps. By the halfway point of the first Twin 30, the East Coast racer was running third.

Gravel lined up third on a double file restart on lap-18, following a fuel stop and fell back two spots to fifth. He would battle several drivers for the fourth position over the final 12 laps, nearly taking that spot on several occasions. When the checkered flag flew, the 20-year-old finished fifth, which was his seventh Top-Five performance of the season with the World of Outlaws. The finale of the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s was lined up by an inversion of the lead lap cars from the opener, with Gravel taking the green flag in 16th. He would finish 19th in that contest. Read more »

Watertown, Conn.—July 16, 2012 — Five feature events at four tracks in three states over a span of five nights. That’s the game plan for David Gravel this week as a busy month of July continues for the young driver. He’ll compete with both the World of Outlaws, as well as the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions.

Gravel takes to the track with the World of Outlaws at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s on Tuesday, July 17. He then heads east to Brewerton Speedway in New York on Wednesday, July 18, followed by a visit to Fonda Speedway, also in the Empire State on Thursday, July 19. The All Stars then travel back to the Midwest for a stop at Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin on Saturday, July 21.

Gravel, who made his debut at Lernerville in 2009, finished second at the track last September with the All Stars, after opening the night as the second-fastest driver in time trials. In 2010, the 20-year-old made a pair of starts at the high-banked four-tenths-mile with the All Stars, finishing fourth and 10th. Gravel finished 18th in his most recent World of Outlaws start at Lernerville in the Commonwealth Clash last year. The first feature event on Tuesday night will be a standard World of Outlaws race, with the second 30-lapper lined up by an inversion of the lead lap cars from the opener. Read more »
