Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (May 28, 2025) – Big Game Motorsports pieced together a trio of top 10s last weekend despite interference from Mother Nature and unkind redraws.
Wet weather postponed the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, to Saturday and wiped out Saturday’s scheduled show at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio.
David Gravel guided the team to the fourth quickest qualifying time in his group before a runner-up result in a heat race earned a spot into the dash. Gravel drew the second-highest number – seven – and he finished where he started in the dash to line up seventh in the main event.
“After qualifying the track was pretty slick,” he said. “They did a lot of work to it and the track broke up. It was uncharacteristic for Attica. We qualified decent and heat raced decent. We didn’t get a good dash draw. In the feature, the track wasn’t something we are the best at. I kept picking away, trying to be patient and to pounce when it was our time.”
After dropping positions early, Gravel rallied late to capture a sixth-place finish.
The team headed east on Sunday to tackle the Kubota High Limit Racing’s Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., where the winner’s share was upped to $100,000. Gravel set quick time in his group and gained a position to finish fifth in a heat race. That earned enough points to make the feature redraw. Unfortunately, Gravel’s spin of the wheel yielded the highest number and he started the feature 10th.
“Drawing the last spot was not good and definitely put us back,” he said. “In stretches of the race we were good and bad. We passed three cars in one lap and they threw out the competition caution around Lap 15. After that we weren’t very good for 10 or 15 laps. Once the fuel load burned off we started going. The last laps we were really rolling.”
Gravel, who drove from eighth to fifth place on the lap when the competition caution was thrown, restarted eighth. He dropped out of the top 10 following the restart, but clawed back for a fifth-place finish by the time the checkered flag was waved.
The weekend concluded on Monday at Atomic Speedway, where Gravel was seventh quickest in time trials. He ran second in a heat race before once again drawing the second-highest number – seven – in the World of Outlaws dash draw.
“We qualified really well for when we went out because it was slicking off really fast,” he said. “We had another bad pill draw, but was able to have a couple of decent laps in the dash to gain two positions. By the end of the B Main the track was taking rubber. We went backwards in the first lap and a half of the feature and by Lap 3 not a single car passed and then the race was over.”
Gravel’s seventh-place result was his worst of the season – a remarkable stat for being approximately a third of the way through the season.
Next up is a trip to North Dakota for World of Outlaws races this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks during the Gerdau Presents the 1 st Leg of the World of Outlaws Northern Tour and Saturday at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo during the Ellingson Presents the Rumble on the Red.
Gravel enters the weekend leading the World of Outlaws championship standings by 182 points.
