Inside Line Promotions – KENNEDALE, Texas (March 18, 2025) – Big Game Motorsports produced a pair of top-five results last weekend at Kennedale Speedway Park.
That makes 10 straight top fives to open the season and 16 in a row dating back to the end of last year for David Gravel.
The Cowtown Classic began on Friday with Gravel qualifying fourth quickest in his group after smacking the wall during his warm-up lap.
“We drew the last pill and hit the wall and went fourth quick so that was good,” he said. “We got in the dash (by finishing second in a heat race) and got a good dash draw. It was a bummer we didn’t win the start of the dash as that was the race.”
Gravel, who started on the pole, finished second in the dash. He spent the entire main event hounding the leader before placing second.
“We gave it our all and our car was capable of winning,” he said. “A couple little things here or there was the difference. Gio (Scelzi) ran a smart race and it was a tight track so there wasn’t extra room to fight for.”
The team returned to the dirt oval on Saturday and Gravel set quick time during qualifying for the fifth time in the last six races. He followed with a heat race victory and a run from fifth to fourth place in the dash.
“I was happy with qualifying,” he said. “The dash draws have been decent this year. To draw the No. 5 and start fourth in the feature, I thought that would put us in a good position. Going into turn one I opened my entry up and somebody dove the middle. It made me check up pretty bad and lose some spots. We fell back to seventh, got back to sixth pretty quickly and was able to get to fifth by the end. The track was pretty wet and had some character. It was a solid run.”
Gravel enters the Federated Auto Parts Texas Two-Step this Friday and Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, leading the World of Outlaws championship standings by 62 points.
“We had a little scuffle there last year, but it’s a track we’ve been pretty decent at,” he said. “That track always races well when it’s slick so hopefully they give us a wide, slick track.”
