Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Record Pair of Top 10s During World of Outlaws World Finals

November 11th, 2022

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 9, 2022) – David Gravel posted a pair of top 10s last weekend during the final World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event of the season.

A sixth-place showing highlighted a trio of feature starts for the Big Game Motorsports driver during the World of Outlaws World Finals hosted by The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“It seemed like things didn’t fall in place for us to be able to race for the World of Outlaws championship,” Gravel said. “We had to be exceptional and win a couple of races to get the job done. It just wasn’t our weekend.”

Gravel finished second in the World of Outlaws championship standings for the second straight season.

The event began a week ago Wednesday with Gravel setting quick time in his qualifying group before a heat race win advanced him into the dash. A near crash at the start relegated Gravel to the back and he placed eighth in the race to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We did everything right early as we qualified well, heat raced well and got into the dash,” he said. “The start of the dash didn’t go well, but we were still in a solid spot going into the feature. I pushed hard to try to beat Brad (Sweet) in the A Main, but I burned the tires off the car and was lucky to finish.”

Gravel ended sixth.

Two days later the team returned to the track. Gravel timed in fourth quickest in his group and placed fourth in a heat race to garner the 15 th starting spot in the feature.

“In the heat race I had a good initial start and a caution came out,” he said. “On the second start I got slid in front of and couldn’t get out of the cushion right away. I was in fourth off turn two and that’s where we finished. Starting 15th, we weren’t good enough to make a charge toward a top five.”

Gravel’s 10th-place result ranked him fourth in event points, which put him on the pole for a heat race on Saturday. He won the race to again make the dash. Unfortunately, the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 sprint car received damage during an early incident and Gravel salvaged a fifth-place result to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“On the first lap of the dash the leader crashed and the guy running third drove into the side of me,” he said. “We had to go to the work area. The guys got the car together and then we started fifth in the feature after finishing fifth in the dash. The track was eating tires all weekend. I can’t tell you why we burned the tires off. I’m not even sure how we finished. We had some crazy tire wear all weekend.”

Gravel advanced toward the top five early in the feature before fading in the final laps to an 11th-place result.
