Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Post Three Top 10s During Week in Pennsylvania

July 28th, 2021

Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (July 28, 2021) – David Gravel produced a trio of top-10 finishes last week in Pennsylvania.

The Big Game Motorsports driver highlighted the three World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series races a week ago Tuesday when he placed fourth during the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup hosted by Lernerville Speedway in Sarver.

Gravel opened the night by qualifying sixth quickest. A heat race win earned a spot into the dash. Gravel advanced a position to finish second, which started him on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“Lernerville was pretty good from the drop of the green,” he said. “I felt like we qualified well for when we went out. We were able to do good in the heat race and we gained a spot in the dash. Starting in the front row was good. We had a good handle on the car and maybe got a little overconfident. We didn’t make as many adjustments as we should have with a 35-lap feature and we were too free. The track got slicker and there wasn’t much grip to be had. You just end up sliding around.”

The fourth-place result was his 25th top five of the season.

Gravel ventured to Williams Grove Speedway for the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals last weekend. He timed in eighth quickest, placed second in a heat race and rallied from eighth to fourth in the dash on Friday to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.

“We were pretty good all night long,” he said. “The best car we had all night was in the dash. I think we were so good in the dash we got cold feet to do too much to the car. We got real loose and free a couple of laps in and just held on at the end.”

Gravel placed sixth and returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday for the event finale. He nearly duplicated his results from the previous night, finishing sixth in qualifying, second in a heat race, fifth in the dash and eighth in the main event.

“The track was a lot wetter that night and was pretty dominant around the top,” he said. “We had a pretty good car in the A Main, but you didn’t want to start on the bottom. We lost a spot on the start. I got tied up with a lapped car and lost a spot there. I passed two guys on the last restart and they both passed me going into turn one and it messed me up. If we started sixth we probably would have been fourth on Lap 1 and been in a better situation. It was just circumstances with racing.”

The team heads to New York this weekend for World of Outlaws races on Friday at Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville for The Big ‘R’ Shootout and Saturday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport for the Empire State Challenge.

“Ransomville is an interesting place,” he said. “It’s fairly fast. We haven’t raced there in a couple of years so I’m interested to see what they’ve done to the track to improve it. And Weedsport is a beautiful facility. It’s a short track that can get really slick. Typically New York is on the slicker side. We haven’t been there in several years so it will even out the playing field.”
