Gravel Grabs Two Podiums to Build Momentum for Big Game Motorsports Entering THE SHOWDOWN

June 21st, 2021

Inside Line Promotions – BEAVER DAM, Wis. (June 21, 2021) – David Gravel produced a pair of podium finishes and a trio of top 10s last weekend during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series tripleheader.

The Big Game Motorsports driver finished third on Thursday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, and on Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway. Sandwiched between was an eighth-place outing at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa.

“The weekend began well as we qualified good and heat raced well at 34 Raceway,” Gravel said. “We didn’t get the greatest dash draw, but we gained a position to finish fourth. We settled into fourth in the A Main. We got up to third and I thought we were pretty good. If I could redo two corners we might have had a shot at the win. We got over the cushion one time and then I tried to go around a lapped car through the middle and lost a bunch of ground.”

Gravel’s third-place result was his 18th top five of the season.

The team ventured to Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday for the first time. Gravel timed in second quickest and he won a heat race for the second straight night to advance into the dash. He continued to show speed by winning the dash to garner the pole position for the main event.

“We did everything right early in the night and had a little better dash draw,” he said. “Someone jumped the start so we got put on the front row. We won that and then we were leading the A Main. The car started getting worse and boom the tire went flat. Luckily it was before halfway so we had time to put it a new one on. That gave us time to recover and pass some guys as we rebounded to finish eighth.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Beaver Dam Raceway, where Gravel set quick time for a series-best ninth time this year. He picked up his third consecutive heat race win of the weekend before a fifth-place finish in the dash started him on the inside of the third row for the A Main.

“I felt we had a good car all night long,” he said. “It wasn’t the best dash draw, but in a six-car dash it’s not as big of a deal. The track was pretty fast paced and there weren’t cautions in the feature. I felt we ran a pretty good race and got up to second. We slipped up in turn four and gave second up on the last lap. It was pretty narrow down there. I missed on entrance and slid up, which let Gio (Scelzi) back by.”

Gravel’s second podium of the weekend keeps him ranked second in the World of Outlaws championship standings entering a busy week. THE SHOWDOWN features five races this week with action on Monday and Tuesday at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., during the Huset’s 50 presented by BillionAuto.com and Thursday through Saturday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., during the 43rd annual AGCO Jackson Nationals.

“I think we’re hitting on something,” he said. “We’re running consistently and good. The expectation is to run consistently well, hopefully in the top five as much as possible. We want to go and win that big money Tod (Quiring) put up.”
