Trek to the west coast continues with stops in South Dakota & Montana
CARLISLE, PA. – August 21, 2018 – CJB Motorsports continued their post 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals trek west as they stopped in North Dakota for a pair of events that resulted in 7th and 18th place finishes.
Up first was a Friday night stop at River Cities Speedway near Grand Forks. The high-banked, 3/10th’s of a mile oval is a favorite of the #5 team and driver David Gravel. On the event that was held on August 17th, Gravel timed in 16th, finished 5th in the heat race and started 13th in the feature.
“Time trials was the culprit again,” Gravel said. “We kept working on our car and finally got it right for the feature. We were able to drive forward, which has been an asset that we’ve had all year. Barry (Jackson), Zach (Holloway) and Derek (Miller) make sure I have a great car for every feature and our stat sheet shows that.”
The following night, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series headed south on I-29 to Fargo for an event at Red River Valley Speedway. Car #5 timed in 6th overall, charged to a heat race victory and won the Craftsman Club dash.
“We were putting together an excellent night,” Gravel explained. “We ran well early on and jockeyed for the lead. Tires became an issue and it bit us that night. We brought out the last caution of the night. It sucks because we did have such a good car.”
The ‘Greatest Show on Dirt,’ remains in the Dakotas but moves west and south. Black Hills Speedway near Sioux Falls, S.D. will host the circuit on Friday, August 24th. On the 25th, Big Sky Speedway near Billings, Mont. will be the site of competition. Gravel and the #5 team finished 6th in both events in 2017.
“A pair of good tracks coming up for us,” commented Gravel. “I thought we ran well at both with room to improve. Each track presents its’ own unique challenge. Looking forward to it.”
