Cedar Lake Speedway kicks off road to ‘Month of Money’ for Outlaws
CARLISLE, PA. – July 2, 2018 – Knoxville Raceway in Iowa holds some bittersweet memories for the CJB Motorsports team and driver David Gravel. Last August, the team had the car to be during the annual 5 Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals before mechanical failure ended their night. For the final weekend in June 2018, the team returned to the half mile oval with redemption on their mind.
On night number one of the Brownells Big Guns Bash, the CJB team timed in 8th, finished 3rd in their heat race and started the feature in the 11th.
“We had a really good car,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We didn’t change too much from our regular setup. Car drove excellent in the feature. It felt good to get back on track after Jason Johnson’s accident. It helped in the healing process. To get a podium finish at Knoxville is tough. We’re glad we were able to make it up there.”
The team returned the following night with a better showing in time trials. A 6th place result netted the team a starting position of 3rd in their heat race. They passed onto the Craftsman Club dash, where car #5 finished 5th.
“We were really good all night yesterday and we knew we had a car capable of winning if we could get up there,” explained Gravel. “This one is for Jason, Bobbi and Jaxx Johnson. We’re all still shaken by the loss, for sure.”
The tour now heads for a weekend double header at Cedar Lake (Wis.) Speedway on Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th before beginning the famed, ‘Month of Money’ with the annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park on Tuesday, July 10th. As a tribute to fallen driver Jason Johnson, the Saturday night feature of the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown will be contested to 41 laps.
“Cedar Lake is a great place,” commented Gravel. “When they have the track right, it’s one of the best places we go to by far. Running the 41 laps for Jason will be very cool and special. The Brad Doty Classic is a marquee event to win. We were honored to do so last year. It was our 10th win on the season last year. We’re at four now so we have some catching up to do. This team is good enough to do that and it’s the right time of year to get on a winning streak.”
