MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND MARATHON: Gravel & CJB Race Four Straight Nights Over Holiday

May 30th, 2018

Three Top-5’s in a row has Pennsylvania based team looking for more as May turns to June

CARLISLE, PA. – May 29, 2018 – David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team had a jam-packed Memorial Day weekend of racing on the nations east coast.

The action all began on Friday, May 25th as the team competed with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at the Dirt Track at Charlotte in North Carolina. Gravel timed in 18th and then fought his way forward from 6th to 3rd in his heat race.

“We just didn’t have a good time trial,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “As we have said, that can make or your night. We luckily rebounded with a good run on our heat race. That allowed us to salvage a top-10.”

After the races, the team then set out on a nearly 500 mile journey to be at Port Royal (P.A.) Speedway the following night to contest the annual Bob Weikert Memorial in support of team sponsor, Weikert’s Livestock. On the opening night, Gravel proved to be a master of the “Speed Palace,” as he timed in 2nd overall and started 2nd for the nights feature.

“What an awesome night it was,” explained Gravel. “Car was great and I really want to thank Barry (Jackson), Zach (Halloway) & Derek (Miller) enough. Awesome night. A runner up finish is always good.”

The team returned to action at the half-mile oval the following night. The Weikert’s Livestock machine timed in 3rd quick, charged from 6th to 3rd in his heat race and then started the feature 6th in the feature.

“Another extremely solid night for us all,” said Gravel. “A few years ago, we ran the Weikert and that really seemed to get our season going. Not that we have been running terrible but we want to be more consistent. This should set us up well for the rest of the year.”

The team then completed their final major road trip of the weekend by hauling to the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway another 477 miles away to rejoin the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Memorial Day, May 28th. Gravel set quick time on the night and won his heat race

“Lawrenceburg was fun as always,” said Gravel. “We ran up front and had a good night. Once again, this should bode well for us going forward.”

There is no rest for the weary as the team now moves onto Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Illinois for an event on Wednesday, May 30th before taking on I-96 Speedway near Lake Odessa, Mich. on Friday June 1st and Wilmot (Wis.) Raceway on Saturday, June 2nd. Gravel is a former winner at I-96 (2016) and Wilmot (2017.)

“Fairbury will be an awesome track to visit for the sprint cars,” commented Gravel. “We’ve won at I-96 and Wilmot before and we’re confident that we’ll do well.”
