As they had done many times before, Gravel and his team brought the fans to their feet with as a last lap pass to score another win.

“We’ve been lucky to be the guys that steal victories this year,” Gravel said. “It’s a lot easier than being the guys that have victories stolen from them, for sure. It was just a great way to cap off a very good year. We qualified where we wanted to on Thursday night. We wanted to make sure we put ourselves on the front row of the heat races and we did that.”

Gravel and the CJB team had traveled to the Dirt Track at Charlotte in North Carolina to wrap up the 2017 season at the Textron Offroad World Finals. On Thursday, November 2nd, the team, along with other sprint cars, big block modifieds and late models, took to the 4/10th’s of a mile oval for qualifying. In the first session, which set the field for Friday nights event, Gravel timed in quickest overall. For Saturdays event, the #5 car timed in 3rd in Group A.

On Friday night, Gravel won his heat race, finished fourth in the dash and lined up to start the feature in 7th.

“We were running really well,” Gravel said. “We were up to third and I felt like we had a car that was capeable of running in the top two. We cut a tire and that sent us back so we had quite a bit of ground to make up. It was tough.”

Back in action the following night, Gravel won his heat race again, finished third in the dash and started the feature in 5th.

“Another amazing car from Barry, Derek and Zach,” said Gravel. “Donny (Schatz) didn’t really move his line and I was really able to close in fast on him in turns three and four. We got there and I had some chances to pass him. We just made the most of it and got it done.”
