PETERSEN MEDIA- David Gravel and his Roth Motorsports team raced well at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA, but getting involved in a couple multi-car wrecks led to a pair of disappointing finishes.
“I thought we raced really well all weekend long, but unfortunately we got caught up in wrecks both Friday and Saturday night,” Gravel said.
The action kicked off on Friday night as Gravel timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle backed No. 83 machine in 15th fastest, putting him on the front row of his heat race.
Finishing second in the heat to his Roth Motorsports teammate, Gravel would transfer into the feature event, as he lined up in the 15th spot.
On a very rough, and tricky, racetrack, Gravel got off to a very nice start as he worked his way into the Top-10.
On lap 15, a wild wreck took place in turns three and four, and as competitors started flipping in front of him, Gravel got of the throttle, and he too would get his machine upside down, and escape unharmed.
Making repairs to his machine, Gravel would restart the race from the tail end of the field, and work his way back up to a 14th place finish.
Saturday night saw track conditions change dramatically as the surface was extremely slick early on in the night. Timing in 17th, and just missing out on the heat race inversion, Gravel would finish fifth in his heat to transfer into the feature event.
Lining up 17th in the main event, the Watertown, CT driver was searching for open real estate on the Thunderbowl Raceway looking for room to work his way forward. A lap 10 restart saw cars stack up in the first corner, and with nowhere to go, Gravel was collected, and again saw damage to his racecar.
With his Roth Motorsports team getting him repaired and back on the track, Gravel was able to do a little moving and shaking, as he worked his way back up to the 14th spot, where he would finish, before the track took rubber.
“You will have those weekends where you seem to get collected in everything,” Gravel said. “My guys did a great job of getting our car back together and back on track both times, and I really have to thank them for all of their hard work. I also need to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for everything they do for the team and myself. I wish we could have had some better results for them last weekend, but we will regroup and get ready for Stockton, CA this weekend.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2015.
