PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the World of Outlaw STP Sprint Car Series after a week in California, David Gravel and his Roth Motorsports team scored a 13th place finish during the series first appearance at the Port Royal Speedway since in 2004 season.
“We qualified okay, but not winning the heat race put us a littler further back than we would have liked to be, and it was tough to get moving forward,” Gravel explained.
With 40 cars checked into the pit area for what was the final appearance in the Keystone State of 2014 for the World of Outlaws, Gravel timed the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/3H Cattle backed No. 83 machine in 11th quickest.
Lining up on the front row of his heat race alongside Paul McMahan, Gravel would battle for the top spot, but would ultimately settle for the second spot, transferring him directly into the feature event, but keeping him from the night’s dash.
Lining up in the seventh row of the feature event, the Watertown, CT driver searched all over the speedway trying to get moving forward, but maneuvering was tough on this night for drivers in the middle of the field.
Battling with Pennsylvania regulars much of the night, Gravel stayed in what was a race long battle with Brock Zearfoss, and Greg Hodnett, as the trio battled just inside the Top-15.
With the race’s lone caution flying on the second lap, the race essentially went non-stop, with no restarts to make up any ground. When the 40-lap feature came to a close, Gravel crossed the stripe with a 13th place finish.
“It was not the end result we were hoping for, but it wasn’t a terrible night by any means,” Gravel said. “I have to thank my guys for working hard, and hopefully we can end our season on a good note at the World Finals.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2014.
