PETERSEN MEDIA- Putting together a very strong weekend with the World of Outlaws, David Gravel closed out a three-race span with a very nice second place finish at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Sunday night.
“We had a really nice weekend, and to cap it off with a second place run at Cedar Lake, racing with Donny Schatz for the win, we will take it. He is simply on his game right now,” Gravel said.
With 28 cars on hand for the Sunday night weekend finale for the World of Outlaw STP Sprint Cars at the Cedar Lake Speedway in Wisconsin, Gravel’s night started off quick, as he was second fastest in time trials.
Running third in his heat, Gravel ran fourth in the dash, to start the 35 lap feature event out of the second row.
When the race went green, the Watertown, CT driver made a bold move getting into turn one and got around both Cody Darrah and Sammy Swindell to take the second spot as he began his race long pursuit of Schatz.
Gravel rim-rode around the speedway keeping Schatz in his grasps, and actually led the 24th lap as they battled hard for 35-laps.
Giving Schatz everything he could, Gravel settled for the second spot aboard his Roth Enterprises/HR Live Stock Transportation/3H Cattle entry.
“Donny just runs the bottom so well, and is so good working the pedal,” he said. “I had no reason to try the bottom because he was down there, so really we had to make the top work, and we had an awesome car up there.”
Gravel’s weekend kicked off at the 34 Raceway on Friday night with him timing the Roth Motorsports No. 83 machine in ninth fastest.
Running second in heat race action, Gravel lined up in the 11th spot for the 30-lap main event.
On the racy track, Gravel was able to use all of the speedway as he worked his way forward.
Taking advantage of two late restarts, Gravel was able to get up to the sixth spot at the finish line.
On Saturday night in Beaver Damn, WI, Gravel stayed consistent in time trials, as he timed in eighth fastest.
Lining up in the sixth row of the feature event, Gravel stayed strong in his Roth Motorsports entry as he battled with the likes of Kraig and Steve Kinser, and took advantage of a fading Billy Balog in the closing stages of the race.
At the stripe, Gravel finished in the eighth spot.
“We picked up three Top-10 finishes including a second place run, and we are all pleased with how we performed,” he said. “I can’t thank Dennis and Teresa Roth, and all of my guys for their hard work all weekend, and at the shop. We have a really good racecar, and I think we will make some noise with some big races on the horizon.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, 3H Cattle, Mobil1, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Astro Titanium for their support in 2014.
