Three nights in Texas over Easter weekend to challenge the CJB team
CARLISLE, PA. – April 11, 2017 – After notching three wins in California throughout the month of March, David Gravel and the CJB #5 team began to trek back to the east. A pair of stops in Arizona at Cocopah Speedway and Arizona Speedway were up first as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series officially opened the month of April.
Cocopah Speedway, near Somerton, held the first event of the weekend on Friday, April 7th. The CJB team owns a victory there having taken the checkered flag in the 2015 Winter Heat Series. For this go around, car # 5 timed in seventh, finished fourth in the heat race and lined up for the feature in 10th.
“We missed the dash by our heat race finish,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We got started in the feature and the track began to take some rubber. I tried to make up some ground on a late race restart but I ended up losing a spot.”
Filling out the weekend was the Outlaws inaugural stop at Arizona Speedway near Queen Creek. Gravel sped to his third overall quick time award of the season before winning his heat race. A dash draw of “6” put the CJB machine three rows back for the dash and, subsequently, the feature.
“We had a great car at Arizona,” said Gravel. “It was cool battling with Rico and we almost swept the night. We wanted the win but another podium finish has us looking for better things.”
A little under 1,200 miles will be put on the CJB hauler as the team books it east to Willis, Texas to make up a rain delayed event at Gator Motor Plex on Thursday, April 13th. From there, it’s straight up I-45 to the Dallas area and the Devils Bowl Speedway for the annual Texas Outlaw Nationals.
“Gator Motor Plex will be fun since we’re all rookies there,” said Gravel, who finished 4th and 7th in last years events at Devils Bowl. “Devils Bowl is a big track and we like those because Paul Kistler gives us amazing engines that really show up at places like that. We’re hoping to be just a bit better this year than last year. Saturday is $20,000-to-win so if there wasn’t enough motivation to win, that certainly helps it.”
