Rescheduled National Open and tilt at Port Royal Speedway up next for team
CARLISLE, PA. – October 5, 2016 – David Gravel was quite confident heading into the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Fulton (N.Y.) Speedway on October 8th. The driver from Watertown, Conn. held the track record, which was set the last time the series visited the facility in 2014.
Heading into the 2016 edition of the event, Mother Nature almost played the role of spoiler. Series and track officials stood strong and the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ was able to field 32 machines.
Gravel and the #5 team timed in 22nd to kick off the night.
“We got ourselves behind a bit in time trials,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Our first lap was good but on the second lap, I hooked the cushion wrong and that screwed me up. We had to charge forward in our heat race. We came from sixth to fourth. Almost had third at the end. In the feature we must have ran over something that punctured the tire on the second lap of the feature. We had to get it changed and then goto the back. We feel very lucky to have salvaged a top-10 out of our night.”
Now, the series moves back to the Williams Grove Speedway near Mechanicsburg, Pa. for the rescheduled Champion Racing Oil National Open on Friday, October 15th before heading to Port Royal (P.A.) Speedway the following night.
“It’s going to be a big show at Williams Grove with a ton of cars,” said Gravel. “We’re excited about it and want to bring it home for Chad and Jenn (Clemens.) We’re also looking forward to Port Royal. We feel like we have some great notes from there to help make us successful. All in all, it should be an excellent weekend.”
