‘Duel in the Dakotas’ is next for Gravel while Swindell Looks Forward to Jackson
CARLISLE, PA. – August 24, 2016 – Podium finishes continue to come for the CJB Motorsports tandem of David Gravel & Sammy Swindell. Even with both drivers on opposites ends of the country, the Pennsylvania based teams continue to race up front and, for Swindell, add victories.
David Gravel and his #5 team started their post Knoxville Nationals western swing on Tuesday, August 16th at Junction Motor Speedway near McCool Junction, Neb.
“We had another great night,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Our car raced really well all night long and we just kept getting better and better. We made up some spots in the dash and that put us up a row for the feature. We ran second to Donny again and I thought we might get to him in lap traffic.”
Gravel continued his hot streak into Wisconsin as the Outlaws took on Angell-Park Speedway near Sun Prairie on Sunday, August 21st.
“Once again, we had a pretty good car,” said Gravel. “We won our heat race which put us in the dash. That helped again. We got going good there in the feature and made up some ground. We tried hard for third but just came up short.”
Halfway across the nation, veteran Sammy Swindell was enjoying an eastern swing with stops at Grandview Speeday near Betchelsville, Pa. and Lebanon Valley Speedway near West Lebanon, N.Y.
Up first was Grandview Speedway on Thursday, August 18th
“We were fairly quick in warmups,” said Swindell, the pilot of the Big Game Treestands, GoMuddy.com #1. “We made up spots in our heat race and tried some different things that I haven’t done with these cars and they kept working so we kept making those changes. We had a good car in the feature. The nose wing got knocked down. We had a red flag and were were able to get it put back up and I was able to get the top wing back and we made some ground up. We got by Lucas Wolfe and Stevie Smith and I think we could have gotten to the lead with just a few more laps in the race.”

Swindell concluded his weekend with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions with a stop at the Lebanon Valley Speedway on Monday, August 22nd. The event was delayed a night by rain. The cagey veteran was able to park it in victory lane, having used his experience at the track to collect his first series win since 2011 and a $7,000 payday.
“The CJB guys gave me a great car all night long,” said Swindell, who also set quick time on the night. “The key was putting ourselves in position early tonight. I was able to climb up through the dash from 5th to start second in the A-main. That was a big step for us. I had to use a little bit of experience here tonight, too. This place can be tough. You have to race it hard, but yet still be able to race the track. It can definitely use you up.”
August now begins to come to a close. Swindell and the #1 team will take the weekend off to prepare for the AGCO Jackson Nationals at the Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex over Labor Day weekend. Gravel and the #5 team will continue westward with two stops in North Dakota. The first is at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday, August 26th with another event at NoDak Speedway in Minot on Sunday, August 28th.
“River Cities is a ton of fun and we had great success there in the early summer,” said Gravel. “NoDak is another great track. The key for the two races will just be to time in well and race well through the heats. We have good, strong cars and I know we can run well”
