Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 13, 2022) – David Gravel earned a pair of seventh-place finishes last weekend during the Brownells Big Guns Bash at Knoxville Raceway.
The two top 10s keep the Big Game Motorsports driver ranked second in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship standings – only 64 points out of the lead.
A third-place qualifying effort in his group kicked off the action on Friday when Gravel placed second in a heat race and seventh in the dash to line up on the inside of the fourth row in the A Main.
“We had a decent dash draw and we threw something at it for the dash, but it didn’t really work out,” he said. “We went back to where we were before and were able to maintain in the feature.”
Gravel ran just outside the top five throughout the main event before recording the seventh-place result.
The team returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday and started the night by setting quick time in qualifying out of the nearly 50 drivers. A heat race triumph advanced Gravel into the dash. Unfortunately, he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the dash on the outside of the fourth row.
“We got a great pill draw and was able to set quick time,” he said. “Then I felt really good in the heat race. It was the best the car felt all weekend. But we had another terrible dash draw and I didn’t feel like I could charge and move forward.
“Everybody is pretty fast. There’s a lot of good guys. In clean air you can feel pretty good, but once you get close to a guy it’s hard to make a move, maneuver and pass him.”
Gravel placed seventh in both the dash and main event.
Up next for the team is a trip to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., for the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial this Friday and Saturday. Gravel has finished third at the track during each of the last three years.
“I like Beaver Dam a lot,” he said. “It’s a fun race track. I’ve been pretty good, but haven’t been able to win there yet. I’m excited to go there for two days in a row.”
