Williams Grove Champion Oil National Open on Tap for CJB Motorsports and David Gravel
CARLISLE, PA. – September 24, 2018 – For the second time this season, David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team raced on with heavy hearts. On Thursday, September 20th, fellow sprint car racer Greg Hodnett lost his life in an incident at Bedford (Pa.) Auto Speedway. With their roots in central Pennsylvania, Gravel and the team will well versed in how talented Hodnett was.
“Greg was a fierce competitor,” Gravel said. “He was a factor about any time he hit the track. Very intense. Off of it, he was kind of quiet but he had a great sense of humor. He was a really good guy. I only have great things to say about him. Hopefully we take the necessary steps at the tracks to prevent this type of thing from happening again.”
Gravel and the team competed at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, OH on Friday, September 21st. The night got off to an excellent start as car #5 timed in 2nd quick in the ‘B” group for time trials, finished 2nd in the 4th heat race and charged from 8th to 2nd in the Craftsman Club Dash.
“We timed in where we needed to,” Gravel explained. “Our night went really well and normally, we’d be disappointed with a 5th place finish but, with the way we have ran, we’ll take it. It felt good to get back on track.”
The following night saw the team competing at Lernerville Speedway near Sarver, Pa.
“We timed in 9th, a good start,” commented Gravel. “We finished 3rd in the heat and 9th in the feature. We felt like we found a good baseline and we’re moving in the right direction.”
The team will stay in the state of Pennsylvania as the annual Champion Oil National Open is up next at Williams Grove Speedway near Mechanicsburg. The $50,000-to-win event finale on Saturday is near and dear to the team and they look forward to defending their 2017 victory.
“We felt really good with how we ran there earlier this year,” said Gravel. “That’s a very special place for us as a team. We want to run well there and I think we have a really good chance of defending our title.”
