Placerville and Calistoga will wrap up second west coast swing for Outlaw tour
CARLISLE, PA. – September 10, 2018 – Strong finishes continue to populate the 2018 schedule for CJB Motorsports. A podium finish at Willamette (Ore.) Speedway led the way as the #5 team also competed in events at Silver Dollar Speedway near Chico, Calif.
Willamette Speedway saw the driver David Gravel time in 7th, finish 1st in his heat race and 2nd in the Craftsman Club dash.
“We had a great car all night long,” Gravel said, whom sits third in the World of
Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. “We fell back in the feature to third and I really discovered that the top was where our car would work the best. We couldn’t quite get back to 2nd but we certainly had some great speed at the end.”
The series rolled into California for the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway. On the first night (September 7th), the team timed in 4th in flight B of time trials, finished 6th in the heat race and came through the Last Chance Showdown to make the nights’ A feature.
“We got crossed up a bit in the heat race and knocked the front end of the car,” Gravel explained. “That’s what caused us to fall in the heat race. We had to come through the B and there wasn’t much passing in the A. The track was really rough, so we just took what we could get.”
Night number two saw Gravel time in 10th in flight B of time trials before finishing 5th in his heat race.
“We had a better night, in terms of overall performance,” commented Gravel. “In the feature, we got together with Ian Madsen on the front straightaway. It tore up the front wing, cracked the frame and a few other things. I was trying to make the car as wide as possible the rest of the race so that we didn’t lose too many spots.”
The second west coast swing wraps up with three, action packed events. Mother Nature delayed the 49er Gold Rush Classic at Placerville Speedway from March 21st to September 12th. After that event, Gravel and the team will then move onto Calistoga (Calif.) Speedway. The Wine Country Outlaw Showdown is an event that is steeped in tradition and will challenge each single team.
“Placerville is a place that is a lot of fun and we’ve had some good success there in the last few years,” said Gravel, the 2017 Placerville winner. “Calistoga is a bit of a different place in California in that it is a big, half-mile track. We’re looking forward to getting back to a big track and anxious to show we what we can do.”
