RANSOMVILLE ROBBER:  Gravel Runs Off with Ransomville Outlaw Win

July 31st, 2018

Huge Ironman weekend leads into the most epic week of the year for sprint car racing

CARLISLE, PA. – July 30, 2018 – Sometimes, you win a race with a thrilling late race pass. Other times, you lead from start to finish. Either way, a win is a win and CJB Motorsports driver David Gravel will take it every time.

Before striking at Ransomville (N.Y) Speedway, the team (and the series) endured another rain out as the scheduled event at Airborne Park Speedway near Plattsburgh, Pa. was canceled due to wet conditions. When the series returned to action at Ransomville (N.Y.) Speedway, Gravel timed in 9th, advanced to 2nd in his heat race and pulled off the same feat in the Craftsman Club Dash.

“I was being a little cautious, I blew a tire here last year and I didn’t want to do that again this year. When Brad (Sweet) showed his nose, I knew I had to step up my game and luckily, I was able to get back by him,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We’ve been fast here the past couple of weeks, it’s good to get another win. This is our first win in a CJB house car, Barry [Jackson] has put a lot of hours in to make these things go fast.”

A rare Saturday night off allowed the team to enjoy some of the sites of upstate New York before returning to action on Sunday, July 29th at the Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway for another event. Gravel timed in 7th, finished 3rd in his heat race and rolled off 7th in the feature.

“We had another fast car,” explained Gravel. “We missed making the Craftsman Club dash by just a little bit and, as we’ve talked about, it makes a big difference in how your night goes. Overall, we are happy with a top-5 on the night. We continue to figure out new things and I’m sure we’ll only get better as we get some more time with it.”

July is now in the books and so begins one of the most exciting, yet intense stretches of the season. Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo. hosts a special, dual $20,000-to-win weekend on Friday, August 3rd and Saturday, August 4th. From there, it is on to Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway for the annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals. Gravel showed word class speed at both facilities in recent memory and will be looking to duplicate past successes.

“Pevely is one of Barry’s favorite tracks to go to,” commented Gravel. “Rain delays are normally a bad thing but, because of the rain, we got a second $20,000-to-win event this year since it was pushed back from last year. Pevely is an ‘elbows up’ track and you have to be on your “A” game there every single lap. It’s a tough racetrack, for sure, but one we’re looking forward to. Knoxville is a place where we won earlier this year and we feel like we have unfinished business. Last year’s Nationals was a hard thing to swallow so we want to go back and finish the job.”
