JAMMIN’ IN JACKSON: Gravel Nets Top-5’s at AGCO Jackson Nationals

June 13th, 2018

North Dakota run up next for a Father’s Day Weekend Double Header

CARLISLE, PA. – May 29, 2018 –   David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports Crew opened the month of June with another strong weekend.

Competing at the state of the art Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex for the three day AGCO Jackson Nationals, the Connecticut driver wheeled his #5 machine to a pair of top-5 finishes.

Round one of the star studded, $40,000-to-win event was delayed from Thursday, June 7th to Saturday afternoon due to rain. The series returned to action the following night, Friday June 8th, with Gravel timing in 6th in the second flight of qualifiers before finishing 3rd in his heat race.

“We had some good speed in the car for the first night of the event,” said the driver of the GoMuddy.com, Big Game Treestands, JRC Transportation #5. “We drove a good race and walked away with a top-5. We also grabbed another KSE Hard Charger award.”

Saturday featured a rare World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series double header. In the first show, Gravel timed in 13th in the first group of qualifiers, finished 7th in his heat race and raced his way into the feature by the way of the Last Chance Showdown.

“Just a tough day for us,” Gravel said. “Timing in is so important to these races and thats where we got behind for the day. We also didn’t really make up any ground in our heat race. so we had to go through the Last Chance Showdown to make the feature. We got another KSE Hard Charger award since we went from 21st to 12th.”

After a quick reset by series and track officials, the $40,000-to-win finale kicked off with Gravel timing in 6th of 42 cars. From there, the CJB driver wheeled his way to a heat race win and a fourth place finish in the Sears Craftsman Club Dash.

“We were definitely better the second event on the day ,” explained Gravel. “Won our heat race and advanced in the dash. We grabbed another top-5 at the end of the night.”

June rolls on as the series heads for River Cities Speedway near Grand Forks, N.D. on Friday, June 15th and Nodak Speedway near Minot, N.D. on Sunday, June 17th. Gravel picked up victories at both tracks in 2017.

“These are a pair of excellent tracks coming up for us ,” said the driver whom sits third in series points. “River Cities is a great place. Probably one of the most exciting tracks we go to. Nodak is a beautiful facility and the fans there really love sprint car racing. We’ll have a good time for sure and hopefully grab a few more wins.”
