VICTORY AT LAST: Gravel & CJB Breakthrough for Big Win at Cottonbowl

May 1st, 2018

Double header at Devils Bowl caps off monster sized Texas weekend for car #5

CARLISLE, PA. – April 30, 2018 – Sometimes, race teams will begin to wonder when the next victory will come. For David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team, 20 wins last season gave the organization plenty of confidence heading into the 2018 campaign. Victory lane has proven to be elusive, thus far in 2018, but the team made a strong statement as the tour returned Cotton Bowl Speedway near Paige, Texas. Not only did the CJB team score their first victory of the season, they did so in convincing fashion by setting quick time on the night, winning their heat race and the Craftsman Club Dash.

“It was just an all-around dominant night said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We were looking forward to going back there. We did get delayed one night by the rain but it didn’t bother us. Barry, Zach and Derek gave me an aswesome car and we led right from the get go. I heard Brad (Sweet) coming a few times but I was able to just go anywhere on the track and got away. It feels so great to get this team back to victory lane. It is what they deserve.”

The following night, the team set up camp at Devils Bowl Speedway near Mesquite, Texas for the Texas Outlaw Nationals. The event, which commemorated the Outlaws 40th anniversary, was a two day show with Saturday nights main event paying $20,000 to win.

“Friday night we timed in 15th,” explained the driver, whom currently sits 6th in series points. “Finished 3rd in our heat and 8th the feature. It was a nice top-10 night. We put a new car and engine together for Devils Bowl so we spent some time just shaking it out. Saturday night was a lot of the same. We had to get the car straightened out for the feature. We started 19th and drove to 10th, which helped us when the KSE hard charger. Wasn’t the result we wanted but we salvaged a top-10 out of it. It was cool to be there for the 40th anniversary of the Outlaws. The autograph line was really long…… and really cool to see.”

The tour opens the month of May with stops at Lake Ozark Speedway near Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri on Friday, May 4th and the Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway on Saturday May 5th.

“First time for me at Lake of the Ozarks,” said Gravel. “We always look forward to a new track. Salina is a really fast track that is a ton of fun. I think we will be good there. We were contending for the win there last year when we ended up in an accident. Hopefully, we get another win or two and get the month of May off on the right foot.”
