HAUBSTADT HAMMER: Indiana Bullring Yields Another Win for CJB & Gravel

Pennsylvania swing up next as the Outlaws tour marches through the month of May

CARLISLE, PA. – May 15, 2018 – Victories have been harder to come by in 2018 for David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team. However, after a strong showing over Mothers Day weekend, the team may be back to it’s 2017 form.

A two-night stop at the famed Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio kicked off the latest race set for the #5 team. On the opening night at the half mile, Gravel timed in fourth, finished third in his heat race and started the feature 12th in the feature

“We finished 13th,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Got caught up in an accident with nowhere to do. We rushed to get back out there and I want to say thank you to everyone that helped.”

The team returned to the track the following night to round out the double header.

“Setting quick time was really cool,” explained Gravel. “We finished second in our heat race. Didn’t get the best draw in the dash and struggled in the feature. It was disappointing because we put a lot of effort into Eldora. We like running there. We just were a bit behind this time.”

The third time was a charm as the tour returned to the Tri-State Speedway near Haubstadt, Ind. to make up for a rained-out event. Gravel was off to a fast start by timing in 5th in the second flight of qualifiers. A second-place finish in the heat race sent the CJB machine into the Craftsman Club dash, where Gravel went from 6th to 1st.

“Starting on the pole is always huge,” said Gravel. “I tried to race a smart race, the lapped cars got tricky. I saw Hunter Schuerenburg poke his nose there at the end, what a great run for him, I’ve known him for a long time and they’ve been good this year. With me in the middle, I knew it would be tough to go around me and I was still able to see who was on the bottom. I’m happy to get another win, it’s been an up and down year so far, happy to get a win on Natalie’s [Jackson] birthday and on Mother’s Day. Winning four of the past five here is huge for CJB.”

The team now heads to their home base for a trio of events that were very kind to them last year: The Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway on Wednesday, May 16th and a two night show at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday, May 18th and Saturday, May 19th. The team won two of the three events during the 2017 season.

“Some great memories from those races a year ago,” said Gravel. A win really helped our team get our mojo back. We’re heading into our home state with some momentum. It’ll be nice to get back to the shop for a few days, enjoy it and race hard. The Pennsylvania guys are tough but we know we have the speed.”
