DOUBLE 5: CJB Grabs Two Top-5’s as Outlaws Get Back to Action in Midwest

April 25th, 2018

Tour heads south to Texas for events at Cottonbowl Speedway and Devils Bowl Speedway

CARLISLE, PA. – April 24, 2018 – After several rain outs on the season, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was finally back in action as the series took to Riverside International Speedway near West Memphis, Tenn. On Friday, April 20th. David Gravel and the #5 CJB machine timed in 10th before finished 8th in his heat race.

“We missed where we wanted to qualify by just a few spots,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “In our heat race, we had a rear end issue and had to thrash in order to get a new one in before the Lase Chance Showdown. We tried something new for that and it helped. We kept adjusting on the car for the feature and drove from 21st to 5th.

The yellows helped, and we even had to the chance to make some good adjustments on the car during an open red. We won the KSE Hard Charger for our efforts. To get a top-5 out of a night like that really speaks volumes about how hard these guys work at being prepared.”

The following night, the team was in action at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 near Pevely, Missouri. Gravel timed in second, won his heat race and made the Craftsman Club dash.

“Another very strong night,” explained the driver, whom currently sits 6th in series points. “We timed in well, won our heat race, made it through the dash and gained some spots in the feature before the track took rubber. There wasn’t but two laps left on our right rear at the end of the event. We were very happy to get another top-5.”

Tri-State Speedway near Haubstadt, Ind. was scheduled to host the tour on Sunday, April 22nd but Mother Nature forced the postponement of that event for a second time. A make up date will be announced soon. The series now heads for Texas where the stars and cars of the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ will contest the Cotton Bowl Speedway near Paige, Texas and Devils Bowl Speedway near Mesquite.

“Cotton Bowl is a neat little track,” said Gravel. “I had fun when we ran there a few years ago. Definitely looking forward to that. Devils Bowl has a ton of history for this series and is just a big, fast track. It’s unique and we really haven’t ran anything quite like it this year so it’ll be good to see where we stack up.”
