Placerville delayed to September; Tour to continue at Ocean Speedway and Bakersfield Speedway
CARLISLE, PA. – March 20, 2018 – Rain continues to be a source of frustration for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Mother Nature forced the cancellation of the opening night of racing action at the Stockton (Calif.) Dirt Track on Friday March 16th. The series was able to get the second night through the full program.
CJB Motorsports and driver David Gravel took the #5 machine and timed in second quick. They won their second heat race of the season and made the Craftsman Club dash for the first time since the opening night of the season at Volusia.
“We qualified where we needed to,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We did well in our heat race. Didn’t quite get the pill draw we needed in the dash but we maintained our position. The track stayed really heavy all night and was pretty rough by the time the feature came around. We really don’t have a fix for that type of surface conditions so it was a battle. There were several crashes and we almost went over ourselves. The double file restarts didn’t help and I just held on. We’re happy we finished 9th.”
Saturated grounds have forced track and series officials to postpone Brad Sweet Placerville Short Track Showdown presented by NAPA Auto Parts from Wednesday, March 21st to Wednesday, September 12th. The series will now head to Ocean Speedway near Watsonville and Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway to Friday, March 23rd and Saturday, March 24th to wrap up the tour’s first west coast swing of the year.
“Watsonville has seen lots of rain lately,” explained Gravel, who finished 3rd the last time the Outlaws visited Bakersfield in 2016. “It’s really small. It’ll be fun. Bakersfield will be as well. We passed a lot of cars there last time so I feel like we’ll have a really good handle on it.”
