SPRING BREAK TOUR: Gravel and CJB sail through Thunderbowl Raceway

March 13th, 2018

Another race night lost to Mother Nature; Outlaws back in action at Stockton for St. Patty’s Day

CARLISLE, PA. – March 13, 2018 – Mother Nature isn’t playing too well with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. A weekend in Texas was washed away and now one of the two scheduled nights of competition at Thunderbowl Raceway near Tulare, Calif. has been lost due to rain.

Racing did commence, however, on Friday, March 9th at the west coast bull ring. David Gravel and the CJB team were looking for their third win at the track in as many years. Car #5 timed in fifth in the second flight of time trailers, sled back one spot on the heat race and started the feature in 13th.

“We just had the same issues that we did on the second night,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We had to change engines again and that limited us on practice time. In our heat race, our line didn’t get going so that set us back. During the feature, we made contact with another car and had to go to the rear. When you get that far back at Tulare, it just gets hard to try to make any ground up. We finished 19th and that stunk.”

With the second night rain out at Thunderbowl, the series will resume their spring back tour at the Stockton Dirt Track on Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th. Last year, Gravel charged from 7th to 5th in the tour’s lone stop at the 4/10th’s of a mile oval.

“Stockton is a place where they have made some changes,” explained Gravel. “We’ve been there where it’s fast and wet and dry and slick. We’ll see what we get and try our best. If we can just get through hot laps and time trials, we feel like we can do a good job the rest of the night.”
