HANGIN’ TOUGH: CJB & Gravel Work to Get Better on North Eastern Swing

Team trucks back to the Midwest for two weekends worth of events

CARLISLE, PA. – October 17, 2017 –  The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season continues to wind down. With less than ten events left on the season, teams and drivers are working hard to end the season on a high note.

CJB Motorsports and driver David Gravel are certainly in that camp. With 17 Outlaw wins on the season, they were back in action to get number 18 as the tour made its’ way to Port Royal (P.A.) Speedway for the Nittany Showdown on Saturday, October 14th.

Gravel timed in 13th in the first flight of hot laps, finished seventh in his heat race and had to make a run through the Last Chance Showdown to make into the nights feature event.

“We didn’t get going right from the start,” Gravel said. “We were off in hot laps, qualifying and the heat race. We threw something new at it in the B (main) and that helped. It was a very fast race track for the feature so that fact that we salvaged a top-10 out of it is a big win for us.”

Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway was to be up next but heavy rains and the threat of severe weather canceled the Outlaws scheduled event. That meant that Ransomville (N.Y.) Speedway closed out the Outlaws swing through the Northeast. Gravel timed in third, won his heat race and finished fourth in the Craftsman Club Dash.

“We ran really well all night,” Gravel said. “With the dash draw being a ‘0,’ it helped us a ton. We ran really good in the feature and could see first and second. While running third, on the last lap, I lost a right rear tire going into three. Luckily, we limped home to fifth. If we had lost it any sooner, we wouldn’t have made it back around.”

The team now treks back to the Midwest to Lakeside (Kan.) Speedway on Friday, October 20th and the Salina (Okla.) Highbanks Speedway on Saturday, October 21st.

“Lakeside is a fun place,” said Gravel. “I’ve struggled there in the features. It could be really fast and narrow or slower and wider. We just don’t really know what we will get. Salina is just high banked and fun. It’s a race to look forward to for sure!”
