COASTAL CHASER: CJB Machine Dazzles in Washington over Labor Day

September 6th, 2017
Oregon leads into Big Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway at Chico

CARLISLE, PA. – September 6, 2017 –  The month of September began in earnest for David Gravel and the CJB #5 as the team took the banks of Skagit Speedway near Alger, Wash. on Friday, September 1st and Saturday, September 2nd. Gravel and Co were looking for their third and fourth straight wins, respectively, as the 3/10th’s of a mile bullring, having swept the events last season.

On Friday night, Gravel timed in 11th, finished third in the heat race and lined up eighth for the feature event.

“Skagit is a good place for us,” explained Gravel. “We started right where we finished and that’s about it for us that night. It would have been great to go forward but it was a solid night. We wanted the win, though.”

Night number two was a tad more favorable to the team that currently sits third in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series points standings. Car #5 timed in 5th quick, finished third in the race and started the feature in eighth for the second consecutive night.

“Another 8th place starting spot,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We had our work cut out for u, for sure. Barry (Jackson) and the guys continue to give me a great car. We were able to really charge at the end. First through sixth was a hell of a battle and a lot of fun as a race car driver. Just happy to end the race on a good note.”

The Labor Day weekend concluded with the Outlaws annual visit to Greys Harbor Raceway in nearby Elma, Wash.

“Another solid finish for our guys,” mentioned Gravel. “We’ll take it a move onto Chico.”

The series drops south into Oregon now for a stop at Williamette Speedway near Lebanon before arriving in Northern California at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.

“Williamette is a great track for us,” commented Gravel. “I think we ran 30 laps there in about 7 minutes so it’s a quick place. We got a top-5, which was nice. Chico is a fun time, always. The Gold Cup is still a bucket list race to win and we’ll be trying hard.”
