CEDAR LAKE ROCKET: CJB Adds More Strong Finishes Before ‘Month of Money’

July 11th, 2017
Attica Raceway Park kicks off the week before trip to fabled Eldora Speedway

CARLISLE, PA. – July 10, 2017 –  The famed ‘Month of Money’ is among the most exciting times on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. Beginning with the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic on Tuesday, July 11th and concluding with the final night of the 5 Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals on Saturday, August 12th, more money and prestige will be up for grabs than at any other time during the year.

David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team began their march towards their big pay day by completing a rain shortened event at Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minn. on Thursday, July 6th. Gravel had timed in fourth before winning his heat race and the Craftsman Club dash on the events original date of June 29th. With three circuits of the forty-lap feature completed, Mother Nature delayed the event.

“We basically had to put together a new car for our return,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Without that time to shake it down, we had a few issues. That’s why we slid back. Sometimes those things just happen.”

Up next was a two-night event at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wis. On the first night, Gravel timed in 9th and finished second and fourth in the heat race and dash respectively.

“We had a relay good pair of nights at Cedar Lake,” said Gravel. “We missed qualifying by one spot. Kerry (Madsen) and Brad (Sweet) were really, really fast. Our car was good.

The team was back in action once again at Cedar Lake the following night.

“The pill draw hurt us a bit on the second night,” explained the Watertown, Conn. native. “Our car got better after the heat race and charging from 10th to fourth is nothing to be ashamed of. Once again, Kerry & Brad were just a bit faster. We’re still working on that last little bit to get back to where we were about a month ago.”

A busy week in Ohio is in store for the CJB team. On Tuesday, July 11th they will travel to Attica (OH) Raceway Park for the annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic before heading to Eldora Speedway for the three-night Kings Royal weekend.
“Attica is a tough place to race,” said Gravel, who won the opening night of the Kings Royal weekend in 2016. “I ran the All-Stars for a while and we raced there quite a bit. Very tough local competition so we’ll have our work cut out for us. Eldora is a probably one of my top tracks. It was cool to win there last year and we want at least one win there this year. It’d be the Saturday night show that pays $50,000.”
