CJB SHOWS SPEED AT JACKSON: Top-10’s highlight three-night swing in Minnesota

June 6th, 2017
Two-day trip to Knoxville Raceway provides team with a chance to ‘beef up” notebook before Nationals

CARLISLE, PA. – June 5, 2017 –  It was a “home race” of sorts for David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team as they ventured to the Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex for the 39th annual AGCO Jackson Nationals. The team, with support of local companies Muddy Outdoors and Big Game Treestands, put on a thrilling show for their partners and nearly snared a victory (or two.)

Thursday, June 1st was the opening day of the three-night event and began with Gravel
establishing a new track record. The youngster finished second in his heat as well as the Craftsman Club dash.

“We had an excellent car on the first night,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5 and former regular New Egypt Speedway competitor. “One yellow flag really changed our night. Ian (Madsen) and Kerry (Madsen) had gotten by me but, late in the race, I just didn’t get a good restart and that saw us fall to sixth. It was disappointing because we had such a good car.”

Night two of the event saw Gravel time in fifth in the second group for time trials, started and finished third in his heat race and rolled off for the feature in 10th.

“We didn’t make the dash on the second night so we figured we would try something different,” said Gravel. “We went forward a few spots in the feature. It was helpful to learn what we did.”

The final night of the event was the big pay day. $25,000 was on the line in the finale. The field was set by combined event points that were accrued during the first two nights of the event.

Gravel started on the pole and won his heat race, which gained him entry in to the Craftsman Club dash.

“We just had some issues in the dash,” explained the Watertown, Conn. native. “In the heat race, we had clean air and in the dash, we had dirty air. So, for the feature, Barry (Jackson) went to work and gave me a great race car. We had some really good speed and needed lap traffic to catch the leaders. We wanted to win for Tod, Luke and all of the guys at Muddy Outdoors. Third was the best we could do. It was a fun weekend, though.”

The tour now heads to the famed Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway for a weekend of racing on Friday, June 9th and Saturday, June 10th.

“We’re going to try some new things this weekend at Knoxville,” said Gravel, who currently sits only 76 markers behind series points leader Donny Schatz. “You want to win the race but we’ll for sure beef up our notebook for Nationals. It seems like there’s always something a little different every year so you have to be prepared for that.”
