CJB ADD’S TOP-10’S IN UPPER MIDWEST: #5 Machine Nets Top-5 in Minnesota

June 27th, 2017
Stop in Illinois kicks off end of June swing that includes visits to Minnesota & South Dakota
CARLISLE, PA. – June 26, 2017 –  As another month ends, David Gravel and the #5 team continue their incredible run through the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series schedule.

Granite City Speedway near Sauk Rapids, Minn. hosted the series known as the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt,’ on Tuesday, June 20th. Car #5 timed in 11th, started and finished the heat race in fourth and rolled off for the feature in 11th.

“Granite City has been a good track for us,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “That was the case again this year. We didn’t time in where we wanted to and that caused us to play catchup throughout the night. We had a really good run and finished fifth.”

A quick trip to Iowa and West Liberty Raceway gave the team another chance to shine. Gravel timed in 14th, started and finished his heat in fifth place and started the feature in 14th.

“We got behind again,” said Gravel. “The track was pretty dry, even early on. We tried a different tire for the feature and we were better on the long runs. We had some restarts late that we just lost some spots. Had it gone green to checker, I think we could have finished 6th or 7th.”

The finale of the weekend as the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial presented by Karavan Trailers at Beaver Dam (Wis.) Raceway on Saturday, June 24th.  Gravel timed in fifth in the second group, started and finished his heat race in third and started 10th in the feature.

“We just needed more track time,” said Gravel, who has nine Outlaw wins this season. “We had some rain and the track was really wet for the night. We really needed to make the dash to get some more track time. I think we could’ve improved our finish of 9th with that.”

Illinois now beckons the team with a stop at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 near Jolliet on Tuesday, June 27th. Stops at Deer Creek Speedway near Spring Valley, Minn. on Friday, June 30th and Dakota State Fair Speedway near Huron, S.D. on Saturday, July 1st close out the weekend swing.

“We hope to be qualifying better and getting ourselves into the dash,” explained the Watertown, Conn. native. “Route 66 will be near for me and it’ll be fun. Deer Creek puts on a great show and Dakota State Fair is where we are looking to have some speed. All-in-all, I think we’ll have a pretty good weekend.”
