PUMMELING THE POSSE: Gravel adds Trophies from Lincoln and Williams Grove

Memorial Day swing has CJB team ready to launch into hot summer months

CARLISLE, PA. – May 22, 2017 –  When one thinks of fierce sporting rivalries, the Yankees versus the Red Sox comes to mind in the world of Major League Baseball. In the National Football League, the Cowboys and the Giants grab headlines. In sprint car racing, it doesn’t get anymore more heated than the World of Outlaws versus the Pennsylvania Posse.

Though his team is from Pennsylvania, David Gravel is squarely in the Outlaw faction and he, along with his team, served notice as they stormed into Lincoln Speedway near Abbottstown, Pa. for the first of three events in the Keystone state.
“We had a great night at Lincoln,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We timed in well. Won the heat, won the dash and started on the pole. We worked really well in lap traffic and I wasn’t sure how big of a lead I had. The guys told me it got to be pretty big. It was so cool to win at a place like Lincoln. It’s a home race for us and it meant a lot.”
After the victory, Gravel and the team headed to nearby Mechanicsburg for two nights of racing action at Williams Grove Speedway. On the opening night, Gravel showed his prowess again by winning the dash after strong performances in time trials and his heat race.
“First night at the Grove was a lot like our night at Lincoln,” said Gravel. “We timed well, raced well in the heat and the dash and led all the laps in the feature. Donny Schatz mounted a charge at the end and we had some late race restarts to get through but we did. Two wins in a row is hard to do, especially in Pennsylvania.”
The final night of racing action at the Grove saw Gravel’s win streak end.
“We didn’t time in as well,” explained the Watertown, Conn. native. “We tried some things in the feature and we weren’t that good. Luckily, we got better as the race went on. We made up some spots and got a top-10. The track was way different than the night before.”
Scheduled racing action at Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway the next night was delayed to Sunday, October 15th due to rain showers.
Gravel and the team now set their sights on events in New Jersey, North Carolina, and Indiana to close out the month of May.
“New Egypt is a cool track in New Jersey,” said Gravel, who currently sits second in the series standings. “We ran well there last year. We ran well at the World Finals so we are looking forward to Charlotte. Lawrenceburg is fun and is another place we ran well at. We have a lot to look forward to this weekend. We choose to be racers so we won’t be outside with family at the lake or so but we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
