TEXAS TRIO: Gravel Grabs Fourth Outlaw Win of the Season at Gator Motorplex

April 19th, 2017
Solid nights at Devils Bowl pushes the CJB crew into events in Arkansas & Missouri
CARLISLE, PA. – April 18, 2017 –  The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series descended on the Gator Motorplex for the first time in series history on Thursday, April 13th. Fans in the stands for the inaugural event were certainly treated to an amazing show as CJB Motorsports driver David Gravel charged from 10th to 1st by lap 30 of the 40-lap feature event. Driver #5 held on and claimed his fourth Outlaw win of the season after timing in 13th.
“I started tenth and was in second before I knew it,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “I knew it was a 40-lap race. I tried to be really patient with Paul [McMahan]. The curve got really, really, really tricky as the race went on, and I almost bit the wall a couple of times.”

After the event at Gator Motorplex, the tour headed to the Dallas metro area and the Devils Bowl Speedway for the Texas Outlaw Nationals. For Friday, Gravel and the team timed in 22nd and had to battle their way to the feature through the B-main.
“We had an off night,” said Gravel. “Those do happen from time to time and it was the first time we’ve had to goto the B this year. That’s pretty good statement for our team. We’re not really happy about it but we rebounded, made the show and made up some ground in the feature.”
Hoping for a better result the following night, Gravel and his team came reloaded and ready to fire for the $20,000-to-win Lanny Edwards Memorial event. The #5 machine timed in 9th, made the dash and sat on the pole for the nights’ feature event.
“I cleared a lot of lap cars really good, and then I got to Shane (Stewart) and I just couldn’t do anything with him,” said Gravel, who currently sits 2nd in the series points standings, only 44 markers behind Donny Schatz. “He was running the bottom in 3 and 4. I tried to pass him on the outside, and obviously, the bottom of three and four was the best lane to be in. That’s where Brad was. That’s just the advantage sometimes of sitting back there watching, seeing what happens.”
The Midwest barnstorming continues for the team and the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ as stops at Riverside International Speedway near West Memphis, Ark. on Friday, April 21st and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 near Pevely, Mo. on Saturday, April 22nd.
“A couple of good tracks coming up for us for sure,” said Gravel. “Riverside will be fun. Pevely is always a good time and Barry usually has a great car for us anytime we go there. We won the Prelude to the Ironman there last year. I’m looking forward to getting another trophy from there.”
