Gravel joins Schatz as only multi-time winner of 2017 season thus far
CARLISLE, PA. – April 4, 2017 – David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team have been “California Dreamin’ for the better part of the last month. With victories at Placerville (Calif.) Speedway and Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, the team now has three victories in six starts in the Golden State in 2017.
Gravel added his second victory of the season at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday, March 29th. The Watertown, Conn. driver picked up his second quick time award of the season, won his heat race and started the nights feature event on the outside of the front row.
“A very solid night for us in Placerville,” said Gravel, driver of the GoMUDDY.com, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “We had to hold off Rico (Abreu) and that’s certainly not an easy thing to do. Another win, especially in California is special.”
Keller Auto Speedway was next for the team. Gravel was looking forward to the return trip as the series had not visited the venue in a few years.
“Hanford was another good night for us for sure,” said Gravel, who won an event at Thunderbowl Raceway this season. “Anytime you score a top-5, it’s a good night. There are some great local cars in California that get to these tracks way more than we do so pulling out that kind of finish just feels good.”
Wrapping up the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series first west coast tour of the season was an April Fools Daystop at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. Gravel timed in fifth, won his heat race and started on the outside of the front row yet again for the feature.
“Just happy to get another win, this is definitely-huge, this the most wins I’ve had this early in the season,” said Gravel, who now sits second in the series points standings. “Not that it takes the pressure off but you just want to keep it rolling.”
A swing through Arizona is now on tap for the CJB team. The series will visit Cocopah Speedway near Somerton on Friday, April 7th before heading to Arizona Speedway near Queen Creek the following night.
“The Arizona tracks should be good for us,” said Gravel. “Cocopah is a place where this team has been before so I know we will be stout. Looking forward to making our way back east.”
