ROCKET MAN: Gravel & CJB Claim Back-to-Back Quick Time Awards

October 26th, 2016
Team gains momentum on the eve before season ending World Finals
CARLISLE, PA. – October 26, 2016 –  Like the wind that rips across the plains, David Gravel and the CJB Motorsports team proved to be a strong force that the competitors of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series had to deal with.
With only four events remaining in the 2016 campaign, the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ made a stop at Lakeside Speedway near Kansas City, Kan. on Friday, October 21st. Gravel, the driver from Watertown, Conn. used Kistler Racing Engines power to lay down a lap in time trials that was good enough to secure him his seventh quick time award of the season.
Gravel remained perfect on the night by winning his heat race before gaining one spot in the
Craftsman Club dash.
“We were good in the feature,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Someone hit a tire barrier on the entrance of turn three and kicked a tire out to the racing surface and I hit it. The car tumbled up and into the fence. It was a pretty knarly ride for sure. My neck is a little sore but all of the safety gear did its job well.”
From Kansas, it was onto Oklahoma and the Salina Highbanks Speedway for the following nights event. Gravel proved to be the quickest of the field again by collecting yet another quick time award.
“We’ve really worked on our qualifying package and it shows,” said Gravel, who won his heat race again for the second straight night. “We were fast again and got into second on the final lap of the feature. I knew I had one shot to I through a hail mary and we almost got there. We lacked a little from winning. We were right there and it was nice to bounce back like that.”
Only two races remain in 2016 for the CJB Motorsports team. The Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals will be contested at the Dirt Track at Charlotte in North Carolina. The racing mega event will take place from Thursday, October 27th thru Saturday, October 29th. Thursday night will feature two time trial sessions with Friday and Saturday featuring full racing programs.
“Charlotte is a place where you never really know what you are going to get, track prep wise,” said Gravel. “We’ve seen it heavy and we’ve seen it slick. We think the key will be to constantly keep up and adapt. We’re feeling pretty good about the close of our season. We just want to go in and pick up two more wins and see where the points shake out. We may end up second overall for the year.”
