THE REBOUNDER: Gravel Bounces Back from Clay County with Podium Finish at US 36 Raceway

September 21st, 2016
Rescheduled date at Hartford leads into final stops at Eldora Speedway and Lernerville Speedway
CARLISLE, PA. – September 21, 2016 –  With over 90 nights of racing on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, a team is bound to have some good and bad luck. With nine victories on the season, David Gravel and the #5 team have had their fair share of success. As the team has moved back east following their second west coast tour, racing luck shifted a tad.
The first stop on the trek back east was at El Paso County Speedway at Calhan, Colorado on Wednesday, September 14th. Gravel was among the 24 competitors on site.
“El Paso was a good track for us since not very many people had many laps on it,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “It was a ‘D’ shaped oval and kinda small so you were constantly turning. We just didn’t have it that night.”
Colorado gave way to Iowa just a few days later as the tour made its way to the Clay County Fairgrounds near Spencer, Iowa, on Friday, September 17th. Gravel started the night off well when issues in the dash caused the #5 machine to drop to the back.
“We had some issues in the dash,” said Gravel. “It was a driver error in that I hit one of the inside tires in turns 3 & 4 and that set us back. It just kind of caused our night to go downhill.”
Osborn, Missouri was the site of the final race of the weekend. US 36 Raceway was the track and Gravel and his #5 team were ready for the challenge.
“We needed a good night to bounce back from the previous three nights,” said Gravel, who currently sits in a tie for third in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series standings. “We ran really well and the track was heavy. The team really loosened the car up and I was just trying to survive the feature but we made it up to third, which was awesome.”
September rolls on as does the tour schedule. Hartford (Mich.) Motor Speedway will host the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt’ on Wednesday, September 21st. Two days later, the Outlaws invade Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio before moving on to Lernerville Speedway near Sarver, Pa. on Saturday, September 24th. Gravel, a winner at both Eldora and Lernerville earlier this year, is excited to up the number in the teams win column for 2016.
“We’re going to some really fast tracks, for sure,” said Gravel, who has nine wins in 2016. “Hartford is a big fast place. We got through time trials when the rains came in the spring so it’s great to come back for the make up date. Our motors will shine there. Eldora and Lernerville are also good places to visit because they are fast and among some of my favorite tracks. I’m really looking forward to them.”
