CJB Grabs Strong Finishes in North Dakota to close out the month of August
CARLISLE, PA. – August 31, 2016 –  The eighth month on the calendar comes to a close as the CJB Motorsports team continue their season long quest for victories.
Coming off of back-to-back top-5’s at Angell Park Speedway and Junction Motor Speedway, David Gravel and the #5 team headed towards North Dakota for the second event of the season at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Gravel timed in 3rd in his flight for time trials.
“We started off behind a little bit but got better,” said Gravel, pilot of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5. “Our car was really good in the heat race and dash. The track was a bit greasy in the feature and we slid back some. I think I overused my right rear and that got me in trouble because I was running up high. I should have stayed on the bottom. My left rear was fine.”
Gravel and the team then moved over to Minot, N.D. on Sunday, August 28th for the Gerdau Magic City Showdown presented by Fastlane Carwash at Nodak Speedway.
“We timed in better at Minot,” said Gravel. “We started up there in fourth and our car was really good for the feature, though we fell back a spot. It was just a good, solid run.”
The second western swing begins now for the ‘Greatest Show on Dirt.’ Up first, is Outlaw Energy Showdown at Skagit Speedway near Alger, Wash. on Friday, September 2nd and Saturday, September 3rd. On Labor Day, the Outlaws will invade Greys Harbor Raceway near Elma.
“Looking forward to all three races,” said Gravel. “The CJB car has been pretty stout at both places so I’m excited to get there. I don’t have as much success there as a driver as they do as a team so that will be something cool to try out. We just want to keep making the dash and getting good finishes, which will hopefully lead us to some wins.”
As Gravel duels on the west coast, Sammy Swindell is suiting up for his final ride of 2016 in the #1 CJB Motorsports machine. The Germantown, Tenn. native will be competing in the AGCO Jackson Nationals at the Jackson (Minn.) Motorplex over the Labor Day weekend.
“The track is like a paper clip and corner entry is very important there,” said Swindell. “It’s key to get the car turned into the corner there. It’s a little different than Eldora or Knoxville where you follow the track more. We’re looking forward to the race. They’ve had some big crowds there this year and I think it’ll be exciting. We’ve had some good runs there so hopefully we can duplicate what we did last year.”
