GOLD CUP TUNE UP: Gravel Races Forward for Top-5 at Silver Dollar Speedway

April 6th, 2016
Calistoga Speedway to test #5 team next; 34 Raceway on tap for #1 team
CARLISLE, PA. – April 6, 2016 – A little bad luck couldn’t stop David Gravel from pulling off a solid weekend as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series was in action at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif. and Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
“We just had an off night,” said Gravel of his performance at Ocean Speedway, which was also his debut there. “We got behind with the pill draw and it was an uphill battle from there. It was a great little track. It didn’t widen out too much in the feature so we really didn’t move forward. It was a bit heavy”
Gravel, driver of the Big Game Treestands, J.R.C. Transportation Inc., C&S Lawn & Landscape #5, put his notes to good use the following night as the team took on another quarter mile bull ring, the famous Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif.
“We gained a spot in our heat race and that was key,” said Gravel, who has an average heat race finish of 2.75 in 2016. “That set us up well for the feature. We survived the first half and the long green flag runs were really good for us. We made up some spots and were really happy to get a top-5. You never know what the track will be like when you arrive but we have a few notes for when we head back in the fall.”
From bullrings to wide open speedways, the Outlaws tour chugs on in the Golden State as the series makes two visits to Calistoga Speedway. The half mile, known for its picturesque views, excellent wine and close racing, is a chance for CJB Motorsports to showcase their speed.
“I think we are really looking forward to getting back to the big, half-miles,” said Gravel. “It’s more of what we see back home and it’ll also really give us a chance to showcase our engine program. It’ll be great to get out there and get to going real fast.”
While Gravel and the #5 team are out west, Sammy Swindell and the #1 Big Game Treestands, GoMuddy.com team will be in Burlington, Iowa on Friday, April 9th for the season opener of the National Sprint League.
“Burlington is a fun track,” said Swindell. “We are looking forward to getting back after it. Tod runs a great series and we’ve been working on some stuff back home.”
